On April 24, at the highly anticipated 2026 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, Leapmotor officially announced the launch of the Leapmotor Lafa5 Ultra.

Since its market launch in late 2025, the Leapmotor Lafa5 has achieved cumulative sales exceeding 20,000 units within just three months, consistently maintaining the top spot in the 90,000–130,000 RMB pure-electric coupe segment. Building upon its accumulated user reputation and in response to evolving market demands, Leapmotor has introduced this high-end variant with a distinctly sportier positioning, aiming to offer a richer array of choices for users who prioritize individuality and driving dynamics.
In terms of design, the Lafa5 Ultra adopts a factory-tuned, sport-oriented aesthetic. The vehicle's dimensions have been adjusted, lowering its height to 1,510 mm; combined with an exceptionally wide body—measuring 1,880 mm, the widest in its class—it projects a visually striking, low-slung, and wide-stance profile. Regarding exterior styling, the entire model lineup now comes standard with an aerodynamic kit featuring a front splitter, side skirts, a sporty rear spoiler, and a rear diffuser. According to official data, this factory-engineered aerodynamic package generates nearly 18 kilograms of downforce when the vehicle is traveling at high speeds of 160 km/h. Furthermore, the new model is equipped with 19-inch "Gunmetal Wing" sports wheels and matte dark-grey metallic brake calipers, complemented by three exclusive matte paint finishes—"Lightning Yellow," "Starlight Green," and "Liquid Silver"—to create an overall style that is highly personalized.

Powertrain and handling were the primary focus of this new vehicle upgrade. The Leapmotor Lafa5 Ultra is equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor delivering a maximum output of 180 kW, enabling it to achieve a 0–100 km/h acceleration time within the 5-second range. To enhance the driving experience, the new model introduces an exclusive "Sport Mode" and features a recalibrated throttle mapping curve. The chassis underwent a specialized sporty tuning process conducted by a joint Sino-European team; this involved lowering the body height by an additional 10 mm, reinforcing the front and rear anti-roll bars, and increasing the low-speed damping of the shock absorbers by 15% to boost the vehicle's lateral support and cornering limits. Notably, the system allows drivers to completely disable the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) in safe environments, granting them more direct and unmediated control over vehicle dynamics. Regarding tires, the new model is fitted with 19-inch Hankook iON evo high-performance tires, boasting a lateral grip of 0.97g and a braking distance of 36.01 meters from 100 km/h.
In terms of intelligent features, the Leapmotor Lafa5 Ultra is equipped with a sensor suite comprising 27 hardware components—including a high-precision LiDAR unit—and is powered by a Qualcomm 8650 assisted driving chip with a computing power of 200 TOPS. This configuration enables a "City Pilot" assisted driving function that operates independently of high-precision maps. Additionally, the new model offers various auxiliary functions, such as 360-degree wheel-view assistance and memory parking for specific lots. Within the intelligent cockpit, the large 14.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip; it features built-in dual large AI models (DeepSeek and Tongyi Qianwen), supporting sophisticated natural language interactions and dialect recognition.

At the Beijing Auto Show, Leapmotor’s four major product series—A, B, C, and D—were all showcased in full force, demonstrating a comprehensive product spectrum that spans sedans, SUVs, and MPVs, covering market segments ranging from A0-class to D-class vehicles. Among these, the two models launched this year—the A10 and D19—have garnered rapid market traction. The A10, a pure-electric SUV positioned in the sub-100,000 RMB segment, surpassed 10,000 firm orders within just 48 hours of its launch, reaching a total of 40,000 firm orders within 28 days; meanwhile, the D19—a full-size SUV—exceeded 10,000 firm orders within just one week of its launch. To better resonate with the young consumer market, Leapmotor showcased a "D99" themed car—featuring a crossover collaboration with the popular panda "Menglan"—at the auto show. The company also presented a demonstration of its "smart ordering" feature on the D19 model, developed in partnership with Tencent Intelligent Mobility and McDonald's.

According to official figures, driven by the rapid-fire launch of a series of new products, Leapmotor achieved global deliveries exceeding 110,000 units in the first quarter of this year, securing the top spot among China's "new forces" in EV manufacturing. Concurrently, the company demonstrated remarkable growth in overseas markets, with export wholesale volume surpassing 40,000 units in the first quarter—marking an all-time high. In terms of channel expansion, and bolstered by its partnership with the Stellantis Group, Leapmotor International announced that it had achieved annual profitability within just its second year of operation. Its business now spans over 40 countries and regions worldwide, supported by an established distribution network comprising more than 2,000 outlets. This year, Leapmotor is set to successively launch three new models in overseas markets—the A10, B10, and Lafa5—with the Lafa5 scheduled for its official international debut starting in June.
